Do the members approve the USCCB 2017- 20 Strategic Plan: ENCOUNTERING the Mercy of Christ; and ACCOMPANYING His People with Joy? 

Vote: Majority of the members present and voting
Result: PASSED (Yes=199, No=4, Abstain=2)

Action Item #02 

Question #1: Do the members approve the request to establish a permanent Subcommittee on the Church in Africa whose status will be revisited upon any change in the voluntary nature of the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa? 

Vote: Majority of the members present and voting
Result: PASSED (Yes=193, No=8, Abstain=4)

Question #2: Do the members approve the addition of two staff positions to the Office of National Collections in service to the Subcommittee on the Church in Africa with the understanding that these positions will be fully funded by the voluntary Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa? 

Vote: Majority of the members present and voting
Result: PASSED (Yes=164, No=26, Abstain=12)

Do the members accept the recommendation of the Committee on Budget and Finance for approval of the 2017 Proposed Budgets? 

Vote: Majority of the members present and voting
Result: PASSED (Yes=165, No=6, Abstain=3)

Action Item #04 

Do the members accept the recommendation of the Committee on Budget and Finance to adopt the revised diocesan assessment formula to be effective January 1, 2018?

Vote: Two-thirds of diocesan and eparchial bishops and their equivalents in law
Result: Inconclusive

Action Item #05 

Do the diocesan and eparchial bishops accept the recommendation of the Committee on Budget and Finance for approval of a 3% increase in the diocesan assessment for 2018? 

Vote: Two-thirds of diocesan and eparchial bishops and their equivalents in law
Result: Does NOT Pass (Yes=100, No=65, Abstain=3)

Do the members approve "Resolution on Diocesan Financial Reporting"?

Action Item #07 

Do the diocesan and eparchial bishops approve the recommendation to extend the Retirement Fund for Religious appeal for 10 years, with the understanding that the body of bishops will continue to receive a professional actuarial report every 5 years? 

Vote: Two-thirds of diocesan and eparchial bishops and their equivalents in law
Result: PASSED (Yes=155, No=8, Abstain=1)

Action Item #08 

Do the Latin Church members approve the inclusion of the expanded Euchological formulary for the Memorial of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha? 

Vote: Two-thirds of Latin Church members with subsequent recognitio by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments
Result: PASSED (Yes=189, No=1, Abstain=0)

Result: Voice Vote - PASSED

 

The U.S. bishops gathered at their annual fall General Assembly in Baltimore, have approved by a voice vote the canonical consultation of four causes for beatification and canonization: Julia Greeley, sought by Archbishop Samuel Aquila of Denver; Sister Blandina Segale, S.C., sought by Archbishop John C. Wester of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Fr. Patrick Ryan, sought by Bishop Richard F. Stika of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Fr. Bernard Quinn, sought by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn.
