Prayer for Peace
Lord Jesus Christ, who are called the Prince of Peace, who are yourself our peace and reconciliation, who so often said, "Peace to you," grant us peace. Make all men and women witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love. Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace. Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace. Mau all peoples of the earth becomes as brothers and sisters. May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always over us all.

The Christian’s Program of Action
St. John the Baptist [is] the only saint whose birth is commemorated because it marked the beginning of the fulfillment of the divine promises: John is that “prophet,” identified with Elijah, who was destined to be the immediate precursor of the Messiah, to prepare the people of Israel for his coming (cf. Mt 11:14; 17:10-13). His Feast reminds us that our life is entirely and always “relative” to Christ and is fulfilled by accepting him, the Word, the Light and the Bridegroom, whose voices, lamps and friends we are (cf. Jn 1:1, 23; 1:7-8; 3:29). “He must increase, but I must decrease” (Jn 3:30): the Baptist’s words are a program for every Christian.

- Act
- The Second Vatican Council said that the books of the Bible are like a family meal, that the treasures of the Bible should be opened up so that a richer fare may be provided for the faithful at the table of God’s Word. Set aside one evening meal around which everyone gathers. Read a passage from the Old Testament and discuss it.
