Faith and Order

Link to the broader organization: The NCC Faith and Order Commission

The Faith and Order Commission is a subcommittee of the National Council of the Churches of Christ. It is charged with a mission to affirm and illuminate the unity of the Church by healing division while honoring diversity. It is part of a global movement that began its preparatory meetings as early at 1910 under the guidance of Charles Brent, an American Episcopal bishop, and has continued to meet on a global level periodically. In the United States, the Faith and Order Commission was inaugurated following a conference entitled, "The Nature of the Unity We Seek," to continue its work and was placed under that auspices of the NCCC-USA. Its ecumenical work encompasses and reflects the nature and diversity of American Christianity. Working in four year cycles that meet semi-annually, the Commission is currently working on issues of "unity in mission" under the direction of Dr. Anton C. Vrame, Ph.D. of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Dr. Christopher Ruddy represents the Secretariat in this dialogue.
