The North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation
The North American Orthodox – Catholic Theological Consultation first began meeting in 1965 under the leadership of Archbishop Iakovos of New York, and Cardinal Shehan of Baltimore. It currently meets twice a year. Archbishop Aymond of New Orleans is serving as the Catholic co-chairman; a new Orthodox co-chairman is awaited following upon the retirement of Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh, who had served in the position since 1987. Over the years the dialogue has produced twenty five agreed statements. Some of the most recent significant ones include, "Common Response to the Aleppo Statement on the Date of Easter/Pascha" which called for a common date of Easter in 1998, "The Filioque: A Church-Dividing Issue?" in 2003,and "Steps towards a Reunited Church: A Sketch of an Orthodox-Catholic Vision for the Future" in 2010. Fr. Ronald Roberson, CSP, currently staffs this dialogue for the Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs Office

History of the Dialogue

The Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops

The Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops was established in 1981 and includes seven bishops of each church.  Currently the Catholic Co-Chairman is Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Lipscomb of Mobile, while the Orthodox Co-Chairmanship is vacant, awaiting an appointment from the newly formed Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America.  The Joint Committee has worked in tandem with the North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation, and has issued several pastoral statements over the years, such as "Ordination" in 1988, "A Pastoral Statement on Orthodox/Roman Catholic Marriages" in 1990, and, more recently, "Statement on the Catholic-Orthodox Dialogue at the Dawn of a New Millennium" in 2000.  Although this dialogue meets annually in principle, for technical reasons it has not met since October 2008.  This dialogue is currently staffed by Fr. Ronald Roberson, CSP on behalf of the Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs Office.
