The USCCB Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs engages in two dialogues with America's Orthodox leadership.

North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation
  • First convened in 1965 and meets twice a year
  • Co-chaired by Archbishop Aymond of New Orleans (Catholic) and Metropolitan Methodios of Boston (Orthodox)
  • Staffed by Fr. Ronald Roberson, CSP, on behalf of the Secretariat
  • Produced 25 agreed statements
  • Participants include Catholic theologians and representatives of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America

Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops
  • First convened in 1981; generally meets once a year but has not convened since 2008
  • Chaired on the Catholic side by Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Lipscomb of Mobile

  • Produced five agreed statements 
  • Participants include seven bishops from each church
