Individuals Seeking Certification

 

Lay Ecclesial Ministers who have proven that they have the competencies required by specialized certification standards are granted a professional certification by their arch/diocese or national organization.

The USCCB Subcommittee on Certification for Ecclesial Ministry and Service approves certification standards and procedures. The arch/dioceses or national organizations whose standards and/or procedures have been approved to certify.Certification recognizes Lay Ecclesial Ministers as professional and competent in their respective areas of specialization. Lay Ecclesial Ministers who have proven that they have the competencies required by specialized certification standards are granted a professional certification by their arch/diocese or national organization and their certification certificate states that they are granted certification under the USCCB approved certification standards and procedures.

The USCCB Subcommittee on Certification for Ecclesial Ministry and Service only approves arch/diocesan certification standards and procedures for arch/diocesan offices, national organizations of specialized ministers listed in The Official Catholic Directory (also called the Kenedy Directory), and national organizations sponsored by state Catholic Conferences. Arch/diocesan offices, national organizations of ecclesial ministers, and state Catholic  Conferences with approved certification standards and procedures are listed in the USCCB Subcommittee Directory
