Renewing the Mind of the Media
In 1998, the nation's Catholic Bishops approved “Renewing the Mind of the Media,” their foundational document on the communications media. While acknowledging that "the media have (the) potential to bring truth and beauty into the lives of billions of people," the Bishops warn that offensive "uses of sex and violence have become prevalent even in some forms of mainstream media.”

The Renewing the Mind of the Media campaign is a multi-media effort of the Bishops to help pastors and parishioners take action against the negative influence of the mass media.

USCCB Media Training Seminars
The media are often the greatest factor in shaping public perception of an issue. They can reinforce a warning, reassure the public, repudiate rumors, and help disseminate information to the public. These seminars help Bishops and other key diocesan staff to better understand the media, to run a more organized and efficient communications operation, and to manage difficult, sensitive, and controversial issues more effectively.

John Paul II: A Light for the World
Created for the occasion of his twenty-fifth anniversary as Pope, “John Paul II: A Light for the World” provides a celebration in photographs and words of the courageous pastor who guides more than one billion Catholics and has made his mark on history the world over. Elegantly designed and produced, “John Paul II: A Light for the World” features over 140 photographs—many of which have seldom been seen outside the Vatican—by official Vatican photographers who have captured the Pope's remarkable life and ministry for two and a half decades. These beautiful photographs are accompanied by selections from the Pope's own speeches and writings as well as essays and personal reflections by scholars and friends that provide insight into the public and private person of Pope John Paul II.
