A NEW DOCUMENTARY FROM THE USCCB'S CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN THAT BRINGS AUTHENTIC CATHOLIC TEACHING ABOUT JESUS CHRIST BACK INTO FOCUS
Was Jesus really married to Mary Magdalene? Did the Catholic Church suppress various secret Gospels that “tell the real truth” about Jesus and the early Church? Did deception and politics determine which books were included and excluded from the Bible?
These are questions that some readers of Dan Brown’s best-selling novel, The Da Vinci Code are asking. With the worldwide debut of director Ron Howard’s film version of the novel coming in May, many others are certain to be exposed to the sensational claims which call into question fundamental orthodox beliefs about Jesus and the Church. To help separate the Catholic truth from fiction, the Catholic Communication Campaign has produced Jesus Decoded, a new hour-long documentary that presents clear and accurate information about the person of Jesus, his disciples, and the formation of the books included in the official canon of the Bible. EASTER MASS FROM THE CATHEDRAL OF ST. LOUIS IN NEW ORLEANS TO AIR ON ABC-TV
Archbishop Alfred C. Hughes of New Orleans is the main celebrant and homilist for the Catholic Communication Campaign’s Easter Mass from the Cathedral of St. Louis that is available to ABC-TV affiliates, Sunday, April 16 (check local listings).
This Easter Mass, not only adds belief of new life, but brings together local residents from the various parishes and schools to renew their baptismal vows during a time when many are struggling to rebuild from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The Cathedral of St. Louis, located on Jackson Square in the historic French Quarter, had recently completed an extensive renovation last year when the hurricane devastated the area; fortunately, the church did not sustain major structural damage, though the new organ was destroyed.
The Cathedral of St. Louis, a minor Basilica, was established in 1720 as a parish and is one of New Orleans’ most notable landmarks.
Easter Mass from the Cathedral of St. Louis, is produced by WLAE-TV in cooperation with the Communications Office of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and funded by the USCCB’s Catholic Communication Campaign.
IT ALL STARTS WITH FAITH…
The Catholic Communication Campaign’s public awareness campaign “Starts with Faith”, highlights individual Catholics—laity, clergy and religious—who are involved in a variety of good works throughout the country. When, the CCC asked these individuals what motivates their devotion to serving others, the message that came across from each person was that “it all starts with faith.”
Viewers see a Jesuit priest who has helped develop an innovative solution to improve educational opportunities for low-income students; a laywoman who has rearranged her own work schedule to make time to help the elderly; and a nun who is providing a home for neglected and abused girls.
You can view these messages at www.startswithfaith.org. There are also 60-second versions of the television messages and longer “mini-documentary” versions on the Web site. In addition, you will find statistics that demonstrate the scope of good works carried out by various Catholic institutions, including health care facilities, schools and Catholic Charities.
To date, the three 30- and three 60-second messages have been distributed to approximately 900 local television stations and cable systems across the country.
