Blackness Black
By: Alfonso Lopez

Blackness black, the tunnel is a speck
No white is visible; No light is hit-able
Shadows lurk in the corners of life
Poverty haunts the faceless mind

The pain, it tries to escape their eyes
They have no friends, only Christ
Even he feels like a picture to them
Only an image, paused for remembrance

One loss switches off the switch that controls light
Poverty’s cycle is a black hole that sucks and pulls
It can’t be stopped, nope not without you
The stars are leaving, which means darkness is breathin

This to that, that to this, this and that lead to more
The cycle is endless, like filthy sins
One step in and your body is trapped
Round and round until you finally collapse

Two ways only, two ways left
Charity and justice, will it mend?
The tears it’s torn into our fabric
The quilt of God, The gift of life

Accusers accuse them of dumbness and laziness
Who are you to judge these men?
Already fighting the shadows of poverty-
You build their worries and crush their light

Blackness black, the tunnel is lightless
Without support they will fall and stumble
Reach out your hand, forget your money
Turn on the light, cause they don’t have any
