Sunflower Community Action

Sunflower Community Action was formed in Wichita, Kansas by a group of low and moderate-income citizens. By organizing block clubs throughout marginalized neighborhoods of Wichita, residents work to create changes in issues such as sub-prime lenders and loan sharks.

Sunflower Community Action's campaign against a notorious predatory lender led to a significant victory in 2002. Over 160 Kansas families owning mobile homes would receive nearly $7 million in lower interest rates and up to $5,000 in cash to be put towards their loan. The settlement is the first time the lender has agreed to pay back victims for abusive lending practices.
