Solidarity Rides

Promote Brake the Cycle in your Parish!

To help promote the Brake the Cycle of Poverty Bike Tour, CCHD has prepared sample bulletin announcements for use in parishes both on and off route. When using the bulletins, be sure to adapt them to your location, and don't forget local contact information.
A Pilgrimage Among a Prayerful People
During the summer of 2003 twenty pilgrims will journey across our country to raise the awareness of our people to the cycle of poverty and ways Christians can remedy it. We hope that church people everywhere will be engaged in prayer and work in their communities to break the cycle.
Catholic parishes can take special moments during the prayers of the faithful of the Mass to focus on particular works of their parish and diocese to bring about change for the poor. It would be particularly appropriate for parishes to pray for projects that receive funds from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development in their diocese.
If Brake the Cycle is coming through your diocese or your diocese is sponsoring a solidarity event, you may wish to send these sample prayers, or ones like them, to each parish before the pilgrims come through your community, encouraging their use on the weekends closest to the dates that these cyclists will be present in your community. You may also want to utilize special speakers to help parishioners reflect on the theme and the purpose of the ride.
