Solidarity Rides

Learn about Solidarity Events in your Diocese

In addition to the exciting events that took place along the Brake the Cycle route, several dioceses elsewhere throughout the country are still hosting solidarity events and rides.

2004 - Diocese of Phoenix First Annual Brake the Cycle of Poverty Charity Ride

Some of their creative ideas include:

Mobil Resource Center - In the Diocese of Des Moines, a group is organizing a mobile resource center that will travel from parish to parish throughout the summer providing resources and education materials for Catholics to learn more about poverty in America and CCHD's empowerment response.

Colonias Solidarity Bike Tour - The Diocese of El Paso is organizing a soliarity bike ride through several of the colonias communities to raise awareness about local poverty. Proceeds from the $40 entrance fee will be used to raise money for a leadership training scholarship fund for low-income community members.

Bike the Islands! - Despite its distance from the cross country route, the Diocese of Honolulu is organizing rides on the islands in solidarity with their mainland brothers and sisters on August 2nd.

Special Delivery - Approximately 30 parishes have been identified through a New York statewide collaboration for a letter writing campaign to state legislators. Parishioners will write about local poverty issues and deliver letters by bicycle to the State Capitol on set dates between June 1st and August 1st.
