Day 2, Monday
Davis, CA to Folsom, CA - 45 miles
If every day were as awesome as today, I'd never want a tomorrow. The bike path was flat and easy, the scenery beautiful, plenty of snacks and awesome cookies from the parish last night and a dip in the cold river was the perfect ending to a quick ride. Beyond all of that, some more amazing things happened to me. The beauty, joy, humor, generosity, faith, and hope of our hosting parish in Davis and people of San Francisco humbled me. All the prayers and offerings of support were amazing. People opened their hearts and homes for a bunch of unknown sweaty bikers and their incredibly helpful support crew, with a crazy idea to ride across the country to end poverty. Everyone knows what we are doing will not do such a monumental task, but everyone believes in the hope, strength, faith, and action that is necessary for ultimate change. When I agreed to do this ride I was mostly concerned with the physical challenge, but now that has moved to the back of my mind, actually for the first time I have no doubt that I will be able to. The support of the people with me both physically and spiritually is like no other force I have felt before. That has been the real awesome part of my trip so far, the realization of this. It's not just the faith and support of me and this group, but the faith and support of those who are victims of poverty. Today is only day two. I am excited and even a bit scared of all that is ahead of me, during and beyond this trip. I feel humbled and privileged to take part in this event. The amount of gratitude for everyone who has made this possible on every level is immeasurable. Thank you. It is proof that if everyone does even just a little it will grow into something gigantic. With love and forever hope, Sarah Stolfa
Special thanks to the families of St. Anthony's parish in Davis, CA for their tremendous hospitality!
