Day 6, Friday
Gardnerville to Fallon - 79 miles
We departed St. Gall's Parish in Gardnerville, Nevada early in the morning after an excellent breakfast served by dedicated parishioners. It was cool as we rode out of town, and the cool air stayed with us for a good part of the morning. The riders were in good spirits as they glided up and down the gentle grades of western Nevada. The scenery was much different from the gorgeous views we had in California, but was still beautiful.
The day was interrupted abruptly by misfortune when Ron Hamm took a nasty spill after completing forty miles. Ron certainly had the Lord's protection, though, because the local fire chief witnessed the accident and stopped to help. Ron cracked his helmet, but avoided head injury. Unfortunately, Ron separated his shoulder and hurt his hip, so he will not be able to complete the ride. Ron's good spirits and keen sense of humor will be greatly missed. He will be in the prayers of all of the riders as he recovers at home.
The day ended at St. Patrick's in Fallon with an uplifting dinner and event with the parishioners. It was wonderful (as always) to visit with the people of the parish and share the energy of the ride with them.
