CCHD Funding Process, Policies, and Timeline
CCHD uses the Eligibility Quiz to determine the funding eligibility of a potential applicant organization.
There are two Eligibility Quizzes: one for Community Organizing grants, and another for Economic Development grants. We strongly recommend you read all criteria and guidelines outlined in the Economic Development grant page and the Community Organizing grant page.
New Applicants applying for CCHD Community Organizing and Economic Development Grants should fill out an eligibility quiz. Eligibility Quizzes for the 2010-2011 grant cycle will be accepted September 1, 2009. Completed Eligibility Quizzes must be e-mailed to cchdgrants@usccb.org no later than November 1, 2009.
CCHD will acknowledge all e-mail submissions received by the Nov. 1 deadline. CCHD will notify successful applicants and send a link to the appropriate CCHD online grant application. The application deadline for new applicants is midnight Eastern time December 15, 2009.
All new applicants are required to submit an Eligibility Quiz for the grant they wish to apply for. "New Applicants" are organizations that wish to apply for a Community Organizing or Economic Development Implementation grant, and did not receive one in 2009. If your organization received a grant in 2008 or earlier, but not in 2009, you are considered a “new applicant,” and should fill out and submit a new Eligibility Quiz.
If you DID receive a Community Organizing or Economic Development Implementation grant in 2009 and are applying for one in 2010, you are not a new applicant, and will receive an email inviting you to submit a refund application along with your interim report.
Eligibility Quizzes are available as MS Word files from the menu near the top of this page. Download the Word file for the appropriate grant and save it to your computer. Fill it out completely and return it by e-mail to cchdgrants@usccb.org no later than midnight Eastern time, November 1, 2009. CCHD will only accept submissions by e-mail. Faxed or mailed quizzes will not be considered.
For organizations who received 2009 Community Organizing or Economic Development Implementation Grants, and are interested in applying for the 2010-2011, the deadline for submitting a refund application for the 2010 grant cycle is midnight Eastern time, December 1, 2009.
All applications for CCHD grants must be submitted online. E-mail notifications of the online application will be sent in mid-October.
If you have any questions about this process, e-mail cchdgrants@usccb.org.

You are strongly encouraged to contact the local CCHD Diocesan Director(s) in the diocese(s) where your activities are located. Contact the CCHD grants specialist for your region should you have any questions.
CCHD national grant awards range from $25,000 to $50,000. A grant award may be less than the amount requested. The average CCHD grant award is approximately $32,000. CCHD does not determine funding based on religious/denominational affiliation.

CCHD funds are allocated only to organizations that are incorporated and have an Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3) tax exempt designation. If the applicant organization is not incorporated and federally tax exempt, CCHD may allow use of a fiscal sponsor to receive the grant funds and distribute them to the funded group. To qualify, the fiscal sponsor must be incorporated and must have a current 501(c)(3) designation. A fiscal sponsor does not direct a funded effort. Their primary purpose is to transmit the CCHD funds and oversee their proper use.
“Six-year” Policy
All organizations who have received funding for any period of six or more years since 1997 will be ineligible to apply to CCHD for a three-year period. This policy applies whether the organization received funding for six years on a continuous or intermittent basis. After the three-year interval, these organizations will be eligible for funding requests for up to another six years before the same interval cycle will be repeated. You should contact your area grant specialist to determine your eligibility for the current grant cycle.
