CCHD Internship Program
Expectations for Hosting a CCHD Intern
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
On-Site Orientation
- The supervisor will arrange an orientation which includes a review of the work plan, an overview of the work place, a history of the host organization, relevant reading materials (as outlined in the curriculum guide), and any other information which will assist the intern in understanding the context of the work plan and CCHD.
Work plan
- The supervisor will develop a work plan with the intern. The work plan need not be extensive; a one page outline of projects/tasks, the intern's schedule, the hours of supervision and the signature of both the intern and supervisor are sufficient. The "Request for an Internship" form sent to the national office by the DD could be helpful in writing the work plan. Supervisors of academic year interns will develop a second, revised work plan by the end of the first week of the Spring semester of the internship.
- A copy of the work plan will be sent to Jill Rauh within the first week of the internship. For academic year interns, the revised work plan will be sent to Jill Rauh within the first two weeks of the Spring semester of the internship.
Supervision
- The supervisor will meet weekly or bi-weekly with the intern to provide supervision, guidance and opportunities for reflection. Regular supervision will help clarify the intern's role, provide feedback on the progress of projects, and ensure that the intern is growing in an understanding of CCHD.
- Supervision should be ongoing and is an integral component to the CCHD-funded internships. Supervisors should encourage interns to identify goals for personal and professional growth and check in about those goals throughout the internship experience. Supervisors are also encouraged to help interns reflect on the readings from the orientation guidebook that interns receive at the June orientation.
Final Report/Evaluation
- For purposes of future planning and reporting, the intern needs to produce a final report, which will include a reflection upon the internship experience and a summary of accomplishments, and submit it to the designated supervisor and to Jill Rauh one week before the completion of the internship.
- The designated supervisor's evaluation of the internship placement program and of the intern's performance should be submitted to Jill Rauh upon completion of the internship.
