Helpful Hints for Recruiting Catholic Interns

  • To locate low-income young adults, try recruiting through the CCHD-funded projects in your diocese, low-income parishes, community colleges, etc.
  • To locate young adults from diverse ethnic backgrounds contact the African American, Latino/Hispanic and other diocesan offices and student groups on college and university campuses.
  • Contact 2-3 of your local Catholic colleges/universities and ask them to identify specific Catholic young people who could apply for your internship.
  • Key people to contact on campus are career service counselors, service-learning coordinators, campus ministers, professors of peace studies, communications, business, theology, or social work.
  • Advertise in parish bulletins and the diocesan newspaper.
  • Circulate information to other diocesan offices and request that they pass information along to their constituencies.
  • Include in recruitment materials the skills and qualifications needed that are specific to the project(s) expected to be accomplished by the intern.
  • Contact the Catholic Campus Ministries offices (often called Newman centers) at the local non-Catholic schools. Four and a half of the five million Catholic college students go to non-Catholic schools. For help in making contact with the Catholic Campus Minister at the local non-Catholic school, try visiting: http://www.ccmanet.org/ccma.nsf/campussites?OpenPage to find links to the campus ministry website. Often, the website lists staff contact information.
