Washington Prayer Breakfast to Mark
Jubilee Day for Women
WASHINGTON (January 10, 2000) -- Several national organizations, including the National Conference of Catholic Bishops' (NCCB) Committee on Women in Society and in the Church, will sponsor a prayer breakfast in Washington to mark the Jubilee Day for Women on March 25.
The event begins at 8:15 a.m. and will be held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is co-sponsored by the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW), Women Affirming Life, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Mary's Press, and Magnificat.
For the year 2000 the church has designated several special Jubilee Days to recognize and celebrate different groups of persons. In the United States, the Bishops' Committee has called for U.S. celebrations of the Jubilee Day for Women nationwide and set as the theme "Women Saying Yes to God."
Speakers at the Washington event include Mary Ann Glendon, professor of law at Harvard University, Patricia McGuire, president of Trinity College, Washington, and Holy Cross Sister Briege McKenna, author and lecturer. The Trinity College Gospel Choir will provide music.
After breakfast, attendees will have opportunities to tour the Basilica and receive the sacrament of reconciliation. At noon, Cardinal Bernard Law, Archbishop of Boston, will celebrate Liturgy for the Feast of the Annunciation.
Tickets are $20 each and reservations must be made in advance.
