Jesus in Art Symposium Slated For Metropolitan Museum of Art
WASHINGTON (March 9, 2001) --A symposium on Jesus in art will be held Saturday, March 31, at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Titled Image of the Invisible God: Picturing Jesus Christ from the 8th to the 20th Century, the symposium is sponsored by the Catholic Communication Campaign and scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Museum auditorium. It is open to the public and free with the suggested Met admission fee of $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens.
The symposium precedes the evening premiere of The Face: Jesus in Art, slated that evening at Radio City Music Hall. Several of the contributors to the landmark movie will participate in the symposium, including the principal writer, James Clifton, Ph.D., renaissance and baroque art expert and director of Houston's Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation since 1994.

The Face: Jesus in Art is an extraordinary wide-screen film that examines 2000 years of artistic renderings of Jesus Christ. Its 8 p.m. premiere at Radio City will be its only major theater screening before its release to PBS TV stations in April.
Narrators include theater and movie stalwarts Mel Gibson, Stacy Keach, Patricia Neal, Edward Herrmann, Juliet Mills and Ricardo Montalban.
The Face: Jesus in Art is produced by Voyager Productions, Ltd. It traces the dramatically different ways in which Jesus has been represented in art throughout history and around the world.
