In The Footsteps of Jesus is a New Video on Catholic Social Teaching

WASHINGTON (May 26, 2003) - How does God call you to make a difference in the world?
That is the central question of a new 28-minute video, In the Footsteps of Jesus: Catholic Social Teaching at Work Today, just released by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
In the Footsteps of Jesus is a two part video that can be used to introduce Catholic social teaching in a wide variety of contexts and time frames. Part one (nine minutes) provides a comprehensive overview of the seven themes of Catholic social teaching and a brief Scriptural and historical context for its development. In part two (19 minutes), each theme is highlighted through the living examples of six extraordinary individuals and a couple who offer insight and inspiration as they share their own commitments to promoting justice and peace in the world today.
Ideal as an introduction to Catholic social teaching, the video can be used as a resource for sacramental preparation, small study groups, and youth and adult religious education. It also includes a study guide.
The video is designed to challenge all Catholicsteenagers and senior citizens, college students and RCIA candidates, pastors and parish councils, schoolchildren and familiesto focus on this simple question: "How is God calling you to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and put his teachings into practice in the world?"
The video was developed in cooperation with the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the USCCB Department of Social Development and World Peace, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Catholic Charities, and the National Council of Catholic Women.
Modern Catholic social teaching has been articulated through a tradition of papal, conciliar, and episcopal documents that explore and express the social demands of the faith. Key themes at the heart of Catholic social teaching include Life and Dignity of the Human Person; Call to Family, Community and Participation; Rights and Responsibilities; Option for the Poor and Vulnerable; the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers; Solidarity; and Care for God's Creation.
In the Footsteps of Jesus: Catholic Social Teaching at Work Today is publication no. 5-444. It costs $14.95 but the resource member price is $8.97.
