Pope Accepts Resignations Of Auxiliary Bishops Roque And Madera

WASHINGTON (September 15, 2004) — Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignations of Auxiliary Bishops Francis X. Roque and Joseph J. Madera, M.Sp.S., of the Archdiocese of the Military Services, USA.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, made the announcement.

Francis X. Roque was born October 9, 1928, in Providence, Rhode Island. He attended St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Providence, September 19, 1953. He was named titular bishop of Bagai and auxiliary bishop of Military Services, March 29, 1983.

Joseph J. Madera was born November 27, 1927, in Hartford, Connecticut. He attended the House of Studies for Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in Coyoacan, Mexico and ordained a priest June 15, 1957. He was appointed co-adjutor bishop of Fresno, California, November 11, 1979, ordained a bishop March 4, 1980, with the date of succession June 30, 1980. He was appointed titular bishop of Orte and auxiliary bishop of Military Services May 12, 1991.
