Bishop Skylstad Calls For Prayer For Hospitalized Pope

WASHINGTON (February 2, 2005) — Bishop William S. Skylstad of Spokane, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, called for prayers for Pope John Paul II, on February 1, shortly after the pope was hospitalized in Rome with breathing difficulties and the flu.

"I ask Catholics and others to join with the bishops of the United States in prayer for our Holy Father's comfort and health. He is a beloved figure who especially loves the church in the United States and appreciates our concern," Bishop Skylstad said.
