CCC Sets Aside $500,000 for Dioceses Damaged by Hurricane Katrina

WASHINGTON (September 14, 2006)—Tucson Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas, chairman of the Committee for Communications of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), announced today that the Committee has set aside $500,000 from the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) for grants to the dioceses which have suffered the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina to help them re-build their communications ministries.

Bishop Kicanas said that as soon as these dioceses are able to assess their needs in this area and inform the CCC, the Committee will handle their grant requests in an expedited fashion.

"The CCC is supported by dioceses throughout the United States, and the Committee feels an obligation, in return, to be of assistance to the dioceses who have suffered so much damage to their ability to serve their people as they have in the past," Bishop Kicanas said.
