Pope Names Philadelphia Vicar for Priests Auxiliary Bishop
WASHINGTON—Pope Benedict XVI has named Msgr. Timothy C. Senior, 49, as an auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia.
The appointment was announced in Washington, June 8, by Msgr. Alexander Cifuentes Castaño, Chargé d’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in the United States.
Bishop-elect Senior has been Vicar for Clergy in the Philadelphia Archdiocese since 2004.
Timothy C. Senior was born in Philadelphia May 22, 1960. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981.
He was ordained a priest for the Philadelphia Archdiocese in 1985.
In 1988, he was awarded Master of Arts and Master of Divinity degrees. He later attended Boston College where he earned Master of Business Administration and Master of Social Work degrees in 1992.
His assignments as a priest have included Assistant Pastor, Assumption Parish, Feasterville, Pennsylvania, 1985-1988; faculty member, Archbishop Kennedy High School, Conshohcoken, Pennsylvania, 1988-1999; student priest, Boston College, 1989-1992; Deputy Secretary, Catholic Human Services, 1992-1997; and Secretary, Catholic Human Services, 1997-2004.
Bishop-elect Senior was made a Prelate of His Holiness, with the title Monsignor, in 2005.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has a population of 3,887,694 people, with 1,458,430, or 38 percent of them, Catholic.
