The Ad Hoc Committee
on Health Care Issues and the Church
The Ad Hoc Committee on Health Care Issues and the Church was created in 1994 in response to a desire by the bishops of the United States to have at their service a committee which could assist the bishops in responding to moral and theological questions surrounding specific health care situations in their dioceses. While it was clear that this ad hoc committee would not be involved in the legislative aspects of the health care debate, it would be active in the national discussion of health care, most notably through its participation in the National Coalition on Catholic Health Care Ministry. The national coalition brings together bishops and representatives of the Catholic Health Association, Catholic Charities, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the Councils of Major Superiors of Women Religious in the USA, and the Conference of Major Religious Superiors of Men's Institutes.
