Welcome

The Secretariat for Evangelization supports the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Evangelization and its initiatives. The BCEV was established in 1977 to implement the vision of the 1975 Apostolic Exhortation, On Evangelization in the Modern World by Pope Paul VI. The U.S. bishops re-affirm that the task of “evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church…Evangelization is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity; and, She exists in order to evangelize.”

NAICE 2006
The second North American Institute for Catholic Evangelization (NAICE) was held on July 12-15, 2006 at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. National, diocesan and parish leaders gathered to reflect on Evangelizing God’s People in A Culture of Diversity. Sponsors for NAICE 2006 were Xavier University, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, the Secretariat for Evangelization and its U.S. Commission on Catholic Evangelization.

Ministry through the Lens of Evangelization contains the proceedings of the first North American Institute for Catholic Evangelization (NAICE) held in Portland, Oregon in 2003. After each major presentation there are reflection questions designed for personal/group discussion. It is an excellent resource for staff members to reflect on their particular ministry through the lens of evangelization. For more information, click Publications on the sidebar.

Catholic Evangelization in an Ecumenical and Interreligious Society
As Christians we are called to evangelize the world around us. However, the Second Vatican Council made it clear that we are also called to be people of dialogue, especially with people of other faiths. In a society that is ever more diverse, how can we properly dialogue with non-Roman Catholic people of faith, yet remain faithful to our mission to evangelize? This publication contains the major addresses delivered at the 2004 Convocation for Diocesan Evangelization Directors which was held in Louisville, KY. Addresses covered major concerns for Catholic Evangelization: Ecumenical Implications, Jewish Relations and, Interreligious Implications. Form more information, click Publications on the sidebar.
