Mandate of the former Committee on Evangelization
The Committee on Evangelization was established in 1977 to implement the vision of the 1975 Apostolic Exhortation, On Evangelization in the Modern World by Pope Paul VI. Approved as an ad-hoc committee in 1976 and a full standing committee in 1989, the bishops re-affirm that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church...Evangelization is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity; and, She exists in order to evangelize... In nurturing this vision, the committee develops initiatives to foster this within the USCCB and the Church in the United States. (2002)
