AOS News and Events



May 20, 2017
- The Annual Maritime Day Mass was held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception-Crypt Church in Washington, DC. In observance of the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Mariners and People of the Sea, the USCCB's National Office of the Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) held a special Mass and a reception honoring Bishop Kevin Boland as he completed 10 years of loving service as Bishop Promoter of the AOS.

June 25, 2017 - The Annual Day of the Seafarers "recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole." This year's theme is Seafarers Matter. Watch a video message from Kitack Lim, International Maritime Organization  (IMO) Secretary-General encouraging ports and seafarer centres from around the world to show how they help support seafarers.

August 8-11 2017 - The North American Maritime Ministry Association Annual Conference will be held in New Orleans, LA.The theme of this event is Caring for the Future of Maritime Ministry.

September 27, 2017 - Feast of Our Lady Star of the Sea

September 28, 2017 - The World Maritime Day 2017 theme is Connecting Ships, Ports and People. Watch a video message from Kitack Lim, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General about the upcoming event's theme.

October 1-7, 2017 - The XXIV World Congress of the Apostleship of the Sea will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN)Seafarers Emergency Fund

“The Seafarers Emergency Fund is to provide immediate, essential aid to seafarers and families of seafarers, who are directly involved in sudden and unforeseen crises. This Fund is available to seafarer welfare organizations and other welfare organizations, hereinafter known as "Applying Organization" to provide the means to purchase goods and/or services for seafarers and/or the spouse or children of seafarers to relieve the need(s) brought on in relation with a sudden and unforeseen crisis.” - ISWAN

These stories are not meant to be exhaustive of the ministry or services of the AOS, nor of the experiences of seafarers and families but they provide a glimpse into the reality of the lives of those who minister and those we serve.
