Guidelines for Use of the US Insignia for World Youth Day 2005

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has copyrighted the US insignia for World Youth Day 2005. The insignia may not be used in any way without the prior written permission of the USCCB. The US insignia has been created in order that pilgrims from the US might easily identify themselves while attending World Youth Day 2005 and might thereby create a sense of national solidarity. It is to be utilized with this purpose in mind.
- No modifications, changes, adaptations, additions, or revisions can be made to the design of the insignia. Each time the insignia is reproduced, it must contain the proper wording and artistic configuration.
- The relative proportions of the insignia must never be altered.
- The insignia can be reproduced either in black and white or in the original colors.
The official World Youth Day 2005 logo must be used whenever the US insignia is used. The US insignia may not be used independently. Permission to use the official WYD 2005 logo must be obtained from Germany: logo@wjt2005.de
- Permission will not be granted for use of the US insignia on pins, badges, buttons, books, or audio or video recordings.
- The insignia may not be used on any web site except those belonging to the USCCB or to a US diocese, eparchy, or parish.
- Permission will be granted for products intended for distribution in the US only.
- Permission for use of the US insignia will be granted without charge for approved products intended for non-commercial use (e.g., T-shirts for pilgrim groups, worship aids for blessing services, etc.).
- A fee will be assessed for use of the US insignia on any approved product intended for commercial use. Commercial use is defined as any use involving an exchange of money, including fundraising, or to cover production costs. The fee will be based on the cost of the item and the number produced. It will be assessed and obtained in advance of permission.
- Commercial use on products apart from fundraising or to cover production costs is prohibited.
- The USCCB will not be involved in policing the mechanics of the promotion, sale, or distribution of any item bearing the insignia, including but not limited to, the adherence of any of the goods to production criteria after the fact, ascertaining whether the goods contracted for by individual distributors are actually received, or collecting royalties based on actual sales or net income.
- The USCCB retains the right to deny any use of the insignia.
