Billy Elliot -- Stirring tale about a coal miner's young son (Jamie Bell) who rises above the tough macho culture that surrounds him to follow his dream of becoming a ballet dancer. Though debut director Stephen Daldry's coming-of-age story is by-the-numbers, effective character development, an engaging narrative and well-placed dance sequences create a pleasurable experience. Some homosexual innuendo and fleeting profanity with recurring rough language. The U.S. Catholic Conference classification is(A-III)-- adults. (R) -- restricted. 2000 (Universal)

- L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
- O -- morally offensive.
** Discontinued classification. All archived movies that were originally in the A-IV category are now classified as L.
