Buck Privates -- The first of many vehicles starring the comedy team of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello has the boys mistakenly enlisting in the Army where they make a shambles of basic training but wind up leading their unit to victory during field maneuvers. Director Arthur Lubin strings together a series of gags involving several of the team's familiar flim-flam routines, little-guy Lou's talent for slapstick and a tame romantic subplot with the Andrew Sisters belting out "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B." It's a dated period piece, but that's part of its pleasure and the gags still draw smiles, especially from youngsters. (A-I)1941

merit and moral suitability. The reviews include the USCCB rating,
the Motion Picture Association of America rating, and a brief
synopsis of the movie.
The classifications are as follows:
- A-I -- general patronage;
- A-II -- adults and adolescents;
- A-III -- adults;
- A-IV**
- L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
- O -- morally offensive.
** Discontinued classification. All archived movies that were originally in the A-IV category are now classified as L.
