A Dangerous Woman -- A simple-minded woman (Debra Winger), raised by an overprotective aunt (Barbara Hershey), falls in love with an alcoholic drifter (Gabriel Byrne) who finally admits to fathering her child after she's institutionalized for killing a former co-worker (David Strathairn). Director Stephen Gyllenhall's unconvincing melodrama presents several well-meaning characters who make major mistakes in their lives, then concludes the story with a terribly unrealistic happy ending. A few bedroom scenes with fleeting nudity, brief gory violence, some heavy drinking and recurring rough language. (A-III) (R) 1993
