Dakota -- Alienated California teenager (Lou Diamond Phillips), accidentally responsible for his younger brother's death, motorcycles away from his father's wrath, gets a job on a Texas thoroughbred ranch, befriends the owner's disabled 12-year-old son (Jordan Burton) and becomes a love interest for the boy's older sister (DeeDee Norton). Director Fred Holmes makes the story more interesting than its contrivances and ultimately encourages young viewers to face life's difficulties instead of running away from them and to commit to positive values. Chaste kisses, brief fisticuffs and climactic heroics in a raging fire. (A-II) (PG) 1988
