Damn Yankees -- Uneven screen version of the Broadway musical about a middle-aged real estate agent who sells his soul to the devil (Ray Walston) to become a baseball star (Tab Hunter) with the Washington Senators as they battle the New York Yankees for the pennant. Directed by George Abbott and Stanley Donen, the plot limps fitfully along in between some zesty musical numbers, the most memorable of which feature Gwen Verdon as Lola, the devil's seductive assistant. Comic sexual innuendo and situations. (A-III) (br) 1958
