Daniel -- Fictional treatment of the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for treason in the 1950s and its effect on their son (Timothy Hutton) as he grows into adulthood in the 1960s, determined to learn the truth about his parents' trial and their guilt or innocence. Sidney Lumet directs a well-intentioned but murky treatment of political events and personal relationships treated in a rather simplistic and romantic manner. It succeeds best, however, in showing the continuity of social justice issues and movements over the last half century. Graphic electrocution scene. (A-III) (R) 1983
