  • Danton -- Polish director Andrzej Wajda has made a stark and powerful film about the conflict between two leading figures of the French Revolution, the cold ideologue Robespierre (Wojciech Pszoniak) and the warm, passionate humanist Danton (Gerard Depardieu). The dubbed French production is essentially an intimate drama, revolving around the personality of its two protagonists. Although no prior knowledge of the intricacies of this revolutionary period is required, those who want to appreciate all the nuances of the situation may be motivated to do some reading in the history of the time. Some graphic violence. (A-II) (PG) 1984
