Dark Past, The
-- Dated melodrama in which a psychiatrist (Lee J. Cobb) held prisoner by an escaped killer (William Holden) in an isolated country cottage passes the time by seeking the cause of the man's homocidal urges. Directed by Rudolph Mate, the threatening situation is made convincing enough, but the killer's psychiatric "cure" through dream analysis seems incredibly naive today. On-going menace and occasional physical violence. (A-II) (br)
