  • Family Thing, A -- Suddenly learning he is half-black, an older Southerner (Robert Duvall) travels to Chicago to meet his half-brother, an African-American cop (James Earl Jones) who shuns him, but whose blind aunt insists he stay a few days and get to know the family. Directed by Richard Pearce, the plot may be contrived but Jones and Duvall give interesting performances in what proves a touching story of coping with life's surprises. Fleeting violence, mild sexual references and occasional epithets, profanity and rough language. (A-III) (PG-13) ( 1996 )
