Welcome to Faith on Film 2002. All of us on the staff of the 2002 Faith on Film Festival send a heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of moviegoers who joined us in New York City over three days to explore Catholic values in cinematic art. With your active participation, including so many who came to three, four and five of the films, our second film festival drew people from all over the tri-state region and as far away as Canada. After each screening, the audience engaged our expert panelists - and one another - with dozens of questions and comments about each film's spiritual dimension. "Moral dilemmas" proved to be a very provocative theme. The conversations were lively, even intense and a number of you remarked on the spiritual and intellectual rewards of discussing film through the prism of faith. By the end of the festival we had explored dozens of issues, including why values of honesty, integrity and justice matter. Our films touched on the Holocaust, religious fundamentalism, social justice, family values and the consequences of personal immorality. Not easy topics, but their very complexity led to insights and a richer understanding of our human frailties. I have a favor to ask.
