  • Great White Hype, The -- Scatterbrained spoof of prizefighting as a tacky slice of show business has a greedy promoter (Samuel L. Jackson) go for the big bucks by ballyhooing a match between the black heavyweight champ (Damon Wayans) and an unlikely white contender (Peter Berg) who once boxed as an amateur. Directed by Reginald Hudlin, the comic send-up of the fight game ranges from low farce to high comedy in a loose grab bag of uneven sketches on a subject which itself borders on self-parody. Pugilistic violence, sexual situations, ethnic and racial jibes, profanity and much rough language. (A-IV) (R) ( 1996 )
