Hoppity Goes to Town
-- Imaginative animated story with the title grasshopper (voice of Kenny Gardner) helping his insect friends find a new home after tiny Bugville is doomed by a skyscraper project, then must rescue his honey-bee sweetheart (voice of Gwen Williams) from a villainous beetle. Directed by Dave Fleischer, the animation is playful and often inventive, with the pleasant music of Frank Loesser and Hoagy Carmichael helping matters along, especially the contrived subplot about a songwriter and a penthouse garden. Slapstick menace. (A-I) (br)
