The media reviewing division of Catholic News Service is responsible for assessing and classifying theatrical motion pictures, and previewing and evaluating television programming and related media content. The division also provides the Catholic public with information about the role of the entertainment media in influencing societal and personal values.

The division maintains, and continues to expand, the database of capsule reviews -- now several thousand -- that was first compiled by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Office for Film and Broadcasting to offer families and individuals an assessment of the moral and entertainment value of theatrical features made available for home viewing over the more than 30 years, since the advent of VHS.

The capsule reviews are provided in English and, since 2008, in Spanish.
