Napoleon and Samantha
-- Disney comedy about a young man (Michael Douglas) who gets involved with an orphaned little boy (Johnny Whitaker), his pet lion and his seven-year-old playmate (Jodie Foster). Among the problems are the burial of the boy's grandfather (Will Geer) and a menacing homicidal maniac. The movie could do without the latter but Geer's death is handled in a sensitive manner that provides a gentle lesson about the passage from life. Appealing performances from Geer and the children under the competent direction of Bernard McEveety make it an enjoyable family movie. (A-I) (G)
