Pollyanna
-- Heartwarming Disney dramatization of the Eleanor Porter children's classic about a turn-of-the-century orphan (Hayley Mills) who comes to live with her stern New England aunt (Jane Wyman), then proceeds to brighten the lives of all in the vicinity with her sunny disposition and penchant for looking on the bright side. Director David Swift has the benefit of Mills' sweet performance with a contrasting cast of grumps (notably Wyman, Adolphe Menjou and Karl Malden), though youngsters may find the proceedings overlong and their elders put off by the sugar-coated treatment.
