Victory for Refugees in Emergency Supplemental
The Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill of 2005, signed by President Bush on May 11, included additional monies for refugee protection during Fiscal Year 2005. Specifically, the final bill contained an additional $120 million for the Migration and Refugee Assistance (MRA) account for the current fiscal year, broken down as follows:
- $53 million for assistance to the displaced and refugees in Darfur and Chad;
- $41 million for assistance for other countries of Africa;
- $26 million for refugee resettlement, which should allow the government to resettle at least 55,000 refugees this year.
Thank you for your assistance in ensuring that refugees are protected!
