Bishops Vote for New Treasurer, USCCB Committee Chairmen and CRS Board Members at General Meeting

BALTIMORE—The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops chose a new treasurer-elect, along with the chairmen-elect of five committees and new members of the board of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as the bishops met for their November 12-15 Fall General Assembly.

The bishops elected:

  • Bishop Kevin J. Farrell of Dallas treasurer-elect/chairman-elect of the Committee on Budget and Finance in a 123-113 vote over Bishop Robert J. Cunningham of Syracuse, New York.

  • Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Raleigh, North Carolina, chairman-elect of the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations in a 167-72 vote over Bishop David A. Zubik of Pittsburgh.

  • Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston chairman-elect of the Committee on Divine Worship in a 122-115 vote over Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron of Detroit.

  • Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski of Miami chairman-elect of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development in a 144-95 vote over Bishop Robert W. McElroy, auxiliary bishop of San Francisco.

  • Bishop Richard J. Malone of Buffalo, New York, chairman-elect of the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth in a 148-90 over Bishop Paul Bradley of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

  • Bishop Eusebio L. Elizondo, M.Sp.S., auxiliary bishop of Seattle, chairman-elect of the Committee on Migration in a 122-117 vote over Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn.

The treasurer-elect and chairmen-elect will assume leadership of their respective committees in November 2013.

Bishops elected to the CRS board were Bishop Joseph R. Cistone of Saginaw, Michigan; Bishop Richard J. Malone of Buffalo, New York; Bishop Gregory J. Mansour of the Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn for Maronites; and Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson, New Jersey.
