WASHINGTON—The U.S. bishops will vote on renewal of the National Directory for the Formation, Ministry and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States at their Spring General Assembly of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in New Orleans, June 11-13.

The action is being proposed by the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations, which seeks the renewal of the recognitio (Vatican approval) granted to the directory for an additional five-year period without any changes at this time.

There are more than 15,000 active permanent deacons in the United States.

Coverage of the general session of the meeting is open to credentialed media. Reporters seeking to cover the meeting can download a credential application form at www.usccb.org/about/media-relations/upload/application-news-media-credentials-pdf.pdf and submit it by June 3 to @email.
