"Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal"

The Office of Child and Youth Protection was established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops at their meeting in Dallas, Texas in June 2002. In November 2002, Ms. Kathleen McChesney was named as the first Executive Director of the Office. The Office is located at 3211 4th Street, NE, Washington D.C.

The Office of Child and Youth Protection is responsible for assisting dioceses and eparchies in the United States in the implementation of "safe environment" programs to protect children. The Office oversees an audit process which measures the progress of all dioceses and eparchies in complying with the provisions of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The Office produces an annual public report describing the results of the audit process. The Office also assists the National Review Board in the conduct of their duties.

For additional information about development of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the Office of Child and Youth Protection, the National Review Board and the "Restoring Trust" program, select from the topics listed below.
