This year, a new edition of The New American Bible (the official bible of Catholics in the United States) was released. Advent is a good time to begin or intensify study of the bible. Read some tips on understanding the bible and consider making a gift of the New American Bible, Revised Edition to your family.

Wednesday, November 30

As we hear the readings from Isaiah and other Old Testament books during Advent, learn how your family can deepen understanding of these ancient texts.

Thursday, December 1

On this World AIDS Day, pray for those who are suffering from or have succumbed to the scourge of AIDS and HIV.

Friday, December 2

On first Fridays, fast by having meals that conform to the USDA Modified Thrifty Food Plan for your family in solidarity with those living in poverty.

Saturday, December 3

Today we remember St. Francis Xavier, who followed his friend and mentor St. Ignatius Loyola and became one of the first Jesuit priests. St. Francis Xavier spent his life traveling and living among the poor, ministering and evangelizing many people throughout India, Asia and the Pacific Islands. Learn more about this saint by listening to a podcast from American Catholic.. . .

sunday, December 4

Make family prayer a priority during Advent by gathering at least once a week to pray the rosary together. Our tutorial will help you if you've forgotten any of the prayers. During the Sundays of Advent, reflect on the Joyful Mysteries as you pray each decade. And don't forget to light the first and second candles on your Advent Wreath on this second Sunday of the season.
