Memorial of Saint John of the Cross, priest and doctor of the Church

  • On his feast day, reflect on these words from St. John of the Cross and ask for his intercession for your family during this Advent.

  • Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, speaks often of God's mercy  Experience God's endless mercy with the Sacrament of Penance. Encourage family members to go to Confession before Christmas.

  • At World Youth Day in Rio last July, Pope Francis challenged young people "You are Christ's athletes! You are called to build a more beautiful Church and a better world. Let us lift our gaze to Our Lady. Mary helps us to follow Jesus, she gives us the example by her own "yes" to God: "I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me as you say" (Lk 1:38). Altogether, let us join Mary in saying to God: let it be done to me as you say. Amen!"
This Advent, as we reflect on Mary's choice, encourage the youth and young adults in your families and parish communities to discover and discern their own vocational calling from God: as a married person, a priest, a religious sister or brother, or a chaste single person.
